Scandinavian Restraint in a Sopot Apartment

Designing a kitchenette in an open-plan space requires balance. How can you accommodate all the necessary functions without allowing the built-in units to dominate the living room? The answer lies in a project from Sopot, where visual discipline and design precision are key to success.

The design was chosen to be just right, tailored to residents’ needs and boasting a stunning finish. This kitchen doesn’t overwhelm with its presence, but discreetly complements the living room’s layout. The overall effect demonstrates that Scandinavian restraint is the best recipe for a contemporary, soothing interior.

Textural balance

The owners were looking for materials that would create a tasteful backdrop for everyday life. From the outset, they knew a subdued colour palette would be key, so the decision-making process began with combining specific materials.

“We ordered a few samples in advance and matched the fronts. We wanted them to be in a calming tone so the kitchenette wouldn’t dominate the living room,” they say.

The choice fell on a noble duo. Nude oak fronts from the Artisan collection on the upper cabinets introduce natural warmth and structure. The Mushroom shade from the Terra collection on the lower cabinets and tall cabinets provides a base that creates a visual calm and harmonises perfectly with the rest of the apartment. This combination gives the kitchen depth and dimension while maintaining a visually tranquil feel.

Architecture of containment

Often, it’s spatial constraints that give rise to the best designs. In this case, the key element was the wall length. To maximise every centimetre, practical solutions were chosen.

Rhythm of drawers:

The Blade model and the even division lines of the drawers introduce a sense of calm, crucial for those who value order.

The role of panels:

The precise use of infill panels makes the furniture look like an integral part of the wall. It also pays tribute to practicality – the lack of gaps facilitates impeccable cleanliness.

High cabinetry:

Conceals the refrigerator and pantry, creating a monolith that organises the space. Using the Modern model as a complement to the Blade model eliminates traditional handles, enhancing the minimalist effect.

This isn’t a space designed for huge gatherings, but rather the one for quiet, everyday cooking. The owners focused on the quality of the materials used in the permanent fixtures, knowing that they will shape the home’s atmosphere for years to come. The kitchen has become a timeless foundation that allows the rest of the house to flow at its own pace.
